How can I make the skin beside my nails grow back normally?

I had this horrible habit of biting the skin beside and around my nails. When I stopped, it doesn%26#039;t look any better. The skin grows back, but not on my finger! Please help, I%26#039;ve had this problem for ages!|||Put nail polish remover on the ends of your nails.
