How do I prevent skin darkening in the sun?

I already have a darker complexion and I%26#039;m traveling to Africa and don%26#039;t want to get any darker. Is there anyway I can prevent it? Does sunscreen work for preventing darkening? What SPF should I use, and does it matter?

Thanks.|||The most effective way to protect yourself is to cover up. Wearing a hat or cap is very effective and sunglasses with UV protection are a must.

If you are doing adventurous activities for a sustained period you should be careful to either cover up any exposed areas with light clothing or be

Ensure you apply suncream of the right factor for your skin type.

The factor will depend on your skin type.

For example, if you have fair skin you will require a higher sun protection factor (SPF) of suncream, such as 30+SPF.

Sun cream factors are also determined by altitude. The higher you go, the higher the suncream factor you will need, especially if you are in the mountains skiiing or snowboarding where the sun will also be reflected off the snow.|||u r very smart!!!! =] Report Abuse
|||I always use the kid/baby spf they seem to work best for me (i burn though not really get darker). I have a friend that uses spf all the time and she still gets darker so it may not stop you from getting darker. You can try wearing a big hat to shade you and sun glasses too and if its not too hot a really thin longsleeve shirt so the sun isnt directly on you.|||Sunscreen. A SPF greater than 30 is probably your best bet. The bigger the better though.|||use a sunblock spf 50

reapply every 2 hours - this is more important than high spf

put lemon juice on ur face every night for 15 mins - wash off and moisterise

u will still tan a bit but not as much
